CHARLESTON — One of North Central West Virginia’s most scenic state parks is undergoing an upgrade.
West Virginia state parks officials announced Dec. 4 that the main overlook at Coopers Rock State Forest will be closed while the pedestrian bridge is being replaced. The project is expected to be finished in July.
Those visiting the forest during this time are encouraged to check out the forest’s other trails and amenities, which will not be impacted by the bridge replacement.
“Ensuring the safety of our guests is our top priority,” said West Virginia State Parks acting chief Dillard Price. “This new bridge will provide a safer and more enjoyable way for visitors to experience one of West Virginia’s most iconic overlooks.”
Over the next several months, the overlook’s aging bridge will be replaced to maintain safety standards. State park officials expect the work to be completed in July 2026, but more specific timelines will be announced as the project progresses.
