BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team traveled to East Hardy on Tuesday March 29th for a single game against the Lady Cougars.
Tucker County dropped a close game at East Hardy as the Lady Cougars broke a 1-1 tie in the 5th inning when an error by the Lady Mt. Lions led to an East Hardy run. The homestanding Lady Cougars then held off Tucker County to pick up the 4-2 win over Tucker County. Kristen Hicks led the Lady Mt. Lions at the plate as she went 2 for 4 with 2 hits and 1 RBI. Kristen Hicks clipped in with 1 hit for Tucker County in the loss. Ava Shaffer took the loss on the mound for Tucker County as she went 6 innings and allowed 6 hits while striking out 13 batters.
MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Softball team traveled to Moorefield on Friday April 1st for a game against their Sectional Rival.
The Lady Yellowjackets scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and 3 runs in the 2nd inning to pull away as Moorefield got the home victory 9-1 over Tucker County. The Lady Mt. Lions collected 6 hits in the contest, but Moorefield held Tucker County to just 1 run in the game. Rachel Felton, Paige Shaffer, Cheyenne Gooden, Ava Shaffer, Katlyn Simmons and Katie Hicks had 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Moorefield had 11 hits in the contest. Shaffer took the loss for Tucker County as she went 4 1/3 innings for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions ended the week with a doubleheader at home on Saturday April 2nd against Pocahontas County.
In Game 1 Tucker County scored early and often as they cruised to an 18-0 victory. Katlyn Simmons got the win on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went 3 innings and struck out 5 while giving up 2 hits in the win. Katie Hicks collected a homerun for Tucker County and Autumn Russell added a triple and a double in the game. Raven Matthews added a double for the Lady Mt. Lions as they had 8 hits in the Game 1 win.
In Game 2 Tucker County continued to hit the ball well as the Lady Mt. Lions racked up 8 hits in a 19-4 victory over the Lady Warriors. Raven Matthews and Addie Hicks had multiple hits in the game and Katlyn Simmons hit a triple in the victory for Tucker County. Kristen Hicks, Autumn Russell and Katie Hicks added 1 hit each in win for the Lady Mt. Lions. Paige Shaffer got the win on the mound for Tucker County and Brianna Gooden also pitched 2 innings for the Lady Mt. Lions.
Tucker County(4-4) will return to action tonight Wednesday April 6th with a doubleheader at home against Keyser. The first game starts at 5pm. The Lady Mt.
