The Patrick County Master Gardeners held a rock painting class for youngsters at the Stuart site Blue Ridge Regional Library on June 28.
Norma Bozenmayer, president of the gardening group, said the event helped the children get involved in the Books, Blooms, and Bugs learning garden at the entrance of the library.
“It’s also part of their summer reading program, so they’re in the library, they’re getting books, and they’re getting together,” she said.
Bozenmayer said each child received two rocks to paint: one for the learning garden and one to take home as a keepsake. The rocks came from a river near the Jack’s Creek area in the
Woolwine area.
While some rocks can be used as a form of mulch along the plants, Bozenmayer said the painted rocks will serve as decoration.
“After they dry, we’re going to seal them, and then they’re going to go out there as kind of like a permanent thing for the kids to see to see that it’s their garden,” she said.
