Del. Wren Williams was exonerated of criminal charges brought by Del. Marie March, R-Floyd, during a hearing in Wytheville on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
“I am grateful that the truth has come out and justice has been served. I am especially thankful for my family, friends, and supporters who stood by us. I am thankful they have been vindicated,” Williams said in a release after the hearing.
According to the release, Williams, R-Stuart, was found not guilty of charges that he committed assault and battery against March at a Ninth Congressional District Republican Celebration Gala in September.
The court heard witness testimony and viewed security footage “that contradicted March’s allegations, and inconsistencies in the testimonies of March’s witnesses,” the release stated.
After a short trial, the judge ruled that Williams was not guilty and dismissed the case so that it cannot be brought again.
“I am grateful March’s allegations were proven false in court, so this controversy can officially be put to rest,” Williams said in the release. “I am looking forward to traveling to Richmond for the legislative session next week, where we will work hard for our district and stand firm for our conservative values. My wife, Britt, and I are expecting our firstborn son any day now. We can’t wait to welcome him into the world. God has blessed us greatly and we are very thankful.”
