CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, recently announced the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council was awarded a 2022 Workforce Readiness Grant, supporting communities served by West Virginia American Water.
“West Virginia American Water’s partnership over the years with the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council has made a significant impact on our source water protection, water conservation and environmental stewardship efforts,” said Robert Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “Our team is excited to continue working with the organization on its new ‘Preparing Female Leaders for the Future’ initiative that will educate our next generation of leaders in West Virginia.”
The Workforce Readiness grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. The Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council received a $25,000 grant to fund its “Preparing Female Leaders for the Future” program.
“It’s an exciting new program that will expose girls to real, hands-on opportunities in STEM fields that will help them prepare for the future and help grow the pipeline for future STEM leaders,” said Beth Casey, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council. “Thanks to this grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation, we are now able to reach more girls in more locations as part of the new ‘Preparing Female Leaders for the Future’ program.”
