Shauntel Hill was the hero when she hit a 3-point shot at the buzzer in the 41-38 victory over Bassett in the Piedmont Quarter Final. Hill had 4 points and 1 steal. Aniya Penn led the Lady Cougars with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists. Kimora Wimbush had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 assist. Missy Hazard had 6 points, 11 rebounds, 7 steals, and 6 assists in the win.
“What a basketball game,” said Coach Donny Rakes. “Shauntel Hill hit a 3-point shot as time expired in regulation off an in-bounds play. Both teams played extremely hard and deserved to win. No team ever led by more than 4 points. We just had the ball last and we capitalized. So proud our defensive effort. It was definitely the difference in the game.”
The Cougars will host Magna Vista Friday, February 17. The girls game tips off at 6 p.m., and the boys will follow at 7:30.
