KINGWOOD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team traveled to Preston for a double header on Monday April 25th. Tucker County took the first game in blowout fashion by the final score of 23-0 and the Lady Mt. Lions kept the offense rolling in the second game to win the last game of the night 20-1.
In the first game of the night Kate Simmons pitched a great game for Tucker County as she allowed just 2 hits and zero runs in her 4 innings, while striking out 4 Preston batters. The Lady Mt. Lions were great from the plate as they registered 15 hits in the game. Katie Hicks had 3 hits in the game, one being a double for Tucker County. Kate Simmons and Raven Matthews added 2 hits each for the Lady Mt. Lions, with 1 hit for Simmons being a double. Paige Shaffer connected for a triple, while Rachel Felton, Haley Tuttle, Kristen Hicks, C Nichols, Addie Hicks, Cheyenne Gooden and Brianna Gooden had 1 hit each for Tucker County in the Game 1 win.
In Game 2 the Lady Mt. Lions offense continued as they got a 5 RBI effort from Senior Cheyenne Gooden. Cheyenne drove in runs in the 3rd inning and then she cleared the bases with a grand slam in the 4th inning to blow the game open. Tucker County scored 8 runs in the 4th inning. The visiting Lady Mt. Lions would collect the Game 2 win by the score of 20-1. Tucker County had 12 hits in the contest. Ava Shaffer, Rachel Felton and Cheyenne Gooden added 1 double each for the Lady Mt. Lions. Kristen Hicks, Rachel Felton and Cheyenne Gooden collected multiple hits in the win for Tucker County. Autumn Russell, Katie Hicks, Paige Shaffer and Brianna Gooden added 1 hit each for Tucker County in the victory. Brianna Gooden got the win on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went 4 innings and allowed 3 hits, 1 run and struck out 4 Preston batters.
CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted East Hardy for a single game on Wednesday April 27th. The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a blowout win over a Sectional opponent by the score of 11-2. The long ball by Tucker County helped them run away as the Shaffer sisters(Paige and Ava) hit a homerun each in the 2nd inning and then Cheyenne Gooden launched a homerun in the 3rd inning to give the Lady Mt. Lions 3 homeruns in the contest. Paige Shaffer added a triple in the game, while Ava Shaffer and Rachel Felton added 1 double each for Tucker County. Paige Shaffer got the win on the pitching mound for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went 5 innings, as she allowed 4 hits while striking out 6 batters for Tucker County in the win.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team ended the regular season with a Senior night home contest against the top team in the Section Petersburg on Friday April 29th. In a close back and forth game Petersburg pulled away in the last inning of the game to score 6 runs and take the road win 12-5. Tucker County would start the scoring in the game as they took a 1-0 lead after 1 inning. Petersburg then forged ahead in the top of the 5th inning 2-1. The Lady Mt. Lions responded to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Lady Vikings responded in the 6th inning as they scored 4 runs to make the score 6-2 Petersburg. Tucker County would fight back in the bottom of the 6th inning as they scored 3 runs to put the score to 6-5 Petersburg with 1 inning to play. The Lady Vikings then got a big inning in the 7th as they would collect 6 runs to get the win by the final score of 12-5. Tucker County had 8 hits in the contest. Rachel Felton, Kristen Hicks and Cheyenne Gooden collected 2 hits each in the game for the Lady Mt. Lions. Paige Shaffer and Kate Simmons added 1 hit each for Tucker County in the loss. Ava Shaffer got the start on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went 5 innings giving up 11 hits and striking out 1. Paige Shaffer pitched 2 innings of relief giving up 8 hits in the game.
Before the game 3 Tucker County Seniors were honored before the game: Kristen Hicks, Cheyenne Gooden and Haley Tuttle.
