HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions opened up postseason play on February 28th in a Sectional Semi-Final game at home against Union. Tucker County jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as they won the contest 80-37.
The first quarter belonged to the homestanding Mt. Lions as they led after one quarter 24-9. In the second quarter Tucker County continued to build their lead as they outscored the Tigers 27-4 in the second to take a commanding 51-13 lead at the halftime break.
The Mt. Lions would control the third 23-13 to make the score 74-26 after the third quarter. Union would win the fourth quarter 11-6, but Tucker County picked up the Sectional win 80-37 to advance to the Sectional Championship with the win.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Ethan Rosenau with 22 points and Trevan Bonner added 14 points in the win for the Mt. Lions. Aaron Quattro had 11 points for Tucker County and Dom Mullenax pulled down a team high 8 rebounds for the Mt. Lions.
KEYSER – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball traveled to Keyser for the Sectional Championship against East Hardy on Saturday March 4th. The Mt. Lions outscored the Cougars 30-3 in the second and third quarters to pull away for a 62-26 victory.
The first quarter was back and forth throughout as Tucker County pulled away slightly at the end of the first to give the Mt. Lions a 16-12 lead after one quarter of play. In the second quarter Tucker County clamped down on defense and forced East Hardy into turnovers as the Mt. Lions started to pull away as they outscored the Cougars in the second 20-1 to put the score 36-13 at halftime.
The Mt. Lions continued to dominate in the third quarter as they outpaced East Hardy 10-2 in the third quarter to up the Tucker County lead to 46-15 after three quarters. The fourth quarter would also belong to Tucker County as they had a 16-11 advantage in the final quarter to give the Mt. Lions the Sectional Championship win by the final score of 62-26.
Ethan Rosenau led Tucker County in scoring off the bench with 14 points. Levi Bennett added 13 points for the Mt. Lions as they connected on 10 three point baskets in the contest. Ashton Lycliter led Tucker County on the boards with 8 rebounds and Maddox Anderson collected 5 steals for the Mt. Lions in the win.
Tucker County(18-4) will return to action on Thursday March 9th at home at 7pm against Tygarts Valley for the Regional Championship. The winner of Thursday’s game will earn a trip to the WV State Tournament on March 14-18 in Charleston. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
