Dayna Kendrick Bobbitt was sworn in as the Patrick County Commonwealth’s Attorney on Monday, May 2.
She assumed the position after former Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Brinegar-Vipperman was appointed as the judge of the 21st judicial district’s General District Court.
Her younger sister, Melanie Kendrick, a new associate attorney at Schneider & Williams, PC, was sworn in as a lawyer.
Patrick County Circuit Court Judge Marcus Brinks said it was a unique situation with two sisters sworn in at the same time.
“We’re really close even though we’re six years apart and I feel like we do everything together for the most part. So, it was bittersweet to have it like this as well for us,” Kendrick said.
Bobbitt said being sworn in with her sister was a neat experience.
“We share so much together already and to be able to share a profession that I love is just the cherry on top of it all,” she said, adding she is excited to see Kendrick in action in the courtroom.
While they are both lawyers, Bobbitt said the two cannot try cases against one another.
“I know everyone would love to see us go at it in court together, but because of the ethics rules we’re not able to try cases directly across from one another,” she said.
Their parents are Nolen Kendrick of Woolwine and Lea Ann Hylton of Patrick Springs; grandparents are Lawrence and Carlene Hylton of Woolwine.
