Sherman Bryan Sisler, age 95 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Sunday evening, December 4, 2022 at Cortland Acres at Thomas, WV.
He was born Thursday, October 20, 1927 at Benbush, WV a son of the late John Henry and Lola Mae Shrock Sisler. He was twice married. First, during 1952 to the former Gloria Joyce Paugh, who preceded him in death November 6, 1980. Second, on August 23, 1997 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Mary Louise Nutter, who preceded him in death January 17, 2016. Surviving are one son, John Sisler and wife Darlene of Thomas; three daughters, Janet Sue Seiberg of Casa Grande, AZ, Joyce Ann Strader of Elkins, and Judy Kay Caplinger and husband Kenneth of Scott Depot; two stepsons, Stephen Grant Kalar and wife Patricia of PA, Joseph Lee Kalar and wife Nancy of Kerens; four grandchildren, Bryan, Kristy, David, and K. C.; four step grandchildren, Kim, Billy, Jody and Angie; ten great grandchildren, Colby, Hunter, Dillon, Kylie Dawn, Kole David, Gabe Wayne, Brigette Jade, Carson, Blaik, and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.
Sherman was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are four brothers, Paul Leroy, Harry Layton, Arlo, and Kenneth Merle Sisler; two sisters, Goldie Irene Kennard, and Dora Harvey; one grandson, Adam Keith Ketterman; two step grandsons, Timmy Kalar, and Manny Lipscomb; and one son in law, Stan Seiberg.
Sherman attended the Pierce Grade School, Thomas High School and Oakland High School. He worked on the dairy farm, and later worked for Sam G. Polino and Company before joining the U. S. Navy where he was a veteran of World War II. After the war he returned to work for Sam G. Polino and later worked for Douglas Coal Company, and then Buffalo Coal Company retiring in 1992 with over 20 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Club.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mike Lantz will officiate and interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery at Garrett County, MD. The Lohr and Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Sherman Bryan Sisler.
