Ms. Shelby Jean Lawless, age 86 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born in Floyd County on January 28, 1937, to the late Early R. Goad and Kayoulah Marshall Goad. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Esther Lawless, four brothers and a sister-in-law, Lewis and Ruby Goad, Braynard Goad, Alwin Goad, and Bobby Lee Goad; and a sister, Mary Lou Dawson. Shelby had worked for Bassett Furniture for 27 years and was a loving mother, granny, great granny, great great granny, sister, aunt, and friend. he was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her children, Randall Alex Lawless of Stuart, Curtis Matt Lawless of Bassett, John Wayne Lawless of Martinsville, Barbara Jean Foley and husband, Jerry of Stuart; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin and Bonnie Goad of Stuart, Clyde and Janet Goad of Collinsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Mae and Terry Reid of Willis, Carolyn and Joe Hogan of Roanoke; one sister-in-law, Essie Goad of Ferrum; a brother-in-law, Joseph W. Dawson of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Shaun Draughn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A committal service will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 2:30 PM at Henry Memorial Park in Bassett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4200 Innslake Drive, Suite 301, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060 or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, P.O.
