The Patrick County School division detailed the registration process for pre-k and kindergarten students expected to start school this fall.
Pre-Kindergarten Registration
Parents with children aged four years old on or before Sept. 30 are invited to attend an Application Submission Session on Wednesday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. School staff will be available to help with the online application, available at www.smart2start.org, and answer questions about the program.
Patrick County Schools participate in the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). Students must meet one of four criteria to participate: Family income must be below 200 percent of poverty; homelessness; students’ parents or guardians are high school dropouts; children with disabilities or delays who are eligible for special education services.
The following must be brought when you register: Verification of household income (W2 or tax return); proof of residency (electric bill); birth certificate; physical exam and shot record to be completed before the first day of school.
Kindergarten Registration
Parents of children who have reached their fifth birthday by September 30 may register the child for kindergarten in the 2023-24 school year. Registration will be held on Wednesday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Information needed for registration includes: a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, proof of residency (electric bill), physical exam with immunization record performed no earlier than 12 months before the start of school.
During registration, parents will be able to receive necessary forms and provide pertinent information. Physical exams do not have to be completed when you register, however they must be completed before the first day of school. Parents are encouraged to bring their child to registration for screening purposes.
