The Craig County School Board has been making decisions for the school’s improvements.
The renovation of the auditorium has been in hopes for years. The amount of $262,410 was approved which will be replacing the seating, flooring, painting, electrical and lighting, but no technology.
The renovations PO has been approved and in the process of getting the equipment and materials approved for installation. Renovations for the locker rooms and the nurses’ clinic are also included to get needed renovations completed in those areas.
The gymnasium renovation includes painting, ventilation, electric, and the protective coating of the floors (as they are unsure if they can complete the renovation before school activities start again). Therefore, the replacement of the wood floors would be at a later date.
There are not yet bids on replacing the floor with hardwood.
Maintenance Director Gills shared that if they put the floor down first, they would have to move the bleachers for the ventilation and the painting and they do not want to take a chance on tearing up the new floors and moving the bleachers. He added that the contractors cannot guarantee their prices due to the economy.
He added that they have not awarded a bid to a contractor for the flooring as of yet, and they have to wait on the availability of the flooring that will be needed.
Member Kevin Altizer commented that there would not be a chance of renovation before basketball season began, and Warwick agreed. However, Warwick noted that they know it is on its way and that is great.
Warwick added that replacing the floor has been on the six-year plan for the past six years, but now with the Esser Funding, it will be possible.
Boitnott was concerned that if the contractor does not have LD’s, the contractors are not pushed to complete on time.
Warwick stated she would work with the contractors and Gill to work on the timeline. Contractors have not yet been chosen, therefore the projects may be delayed until breaks.
The HVAC improvement bid was finalized with Waco at $1,704,000. Equipment is now in process of being ordered.
Warwick shared that in a few weeks, they should have a pricing for the other areas, allowing room in each budget for contingencies. “You never know what can happen, as when we are fixing something, other things may need attention as well.”
The contractors have to wait to begin their renovations as they have to know when the equipment will arrive.
“With the supply chain, we are not sure about delivery dates on equipment,” Warwick added. “We will be meeting with the contractors the last week of July to sort out these details.”
