Animals at the Salem Animal Shelter will be happier and healthier thanks to $3,000 raised by members of Salem Moose Lodge 2573 and 1,141 pounds of pet food collected from members and people in the community.
The donations were presented to Salem Animal Shelter Manager Molly Jennings at a fundraiser party on March 6 at the lodge on East Main Street.
Lodge President Butch Bryant presented the giant check, along with volunteer fundraising event coordinator Ann Whitenack.
More than 65 members and guests attended, enjoying chili, soups, salads desserts made by volunteers. They part in a silent auction hoping to take home pet products, gift baskets, dinner tickets and more.
Shelter staff member Brandi Houchin held a 10-month-old Siberian puppy – yet to be named – for him to give kisses to anyone who wanted. Both he and a six-year-old Pug found homes that day. There were also two large, fluffy cats charming possible adopters.
