The Town of Buchanan asks you if you remember how much fun you had as a child attending the Buchanan Community Carnival? The town and its group of dedicated volunteers invites everyone to the 68th annual Buchanan Community Carnival.
Community Development Planner Harry Gleason notes, “The kickoff for this year’s carnival is Thursday, June 30, with activities continuing through Saturday, July 9.” (The carnival is closed on Sunday, July 3rd.)
Food stands open by 6 p.m. each evening with rides opening at 6:30 p.m.
For more than six decades, 75 plus volunteers gather each evening during the carnival to welcome visitors to the midway filled with family-oriented games and rides provided by Cole Amusements, and great food prepared and served by the volunteers, including ice cream, “Carnival Burgers,” Petros, hot dogs, and Buchanan’s world famous fries!” Gleason said.
Town Manager Susan McCulloch adds, “I enjoy the opportunity to meet new volunteers as well as the opportunity to work with volunteers who have been part of the carnival efforts for decades, sharing their time and talents. It is truly inspiring.”
Throughout the event, both familiar and new names will entertain crowds during live performances from center stage. Bands include Mason Creek, Glen Shelton, Wound Tight, The Frequency, Phat Boyz, and One Take Band.
Families can save by purchasing tickets in advance online from www.colerides.com. Online all-you-can-ride wristbands are $20, while those purchased on site are $25. Save on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 5-7 when wristbands may be purchased on site for just $15.
Special Fourth of July activities include the Buchanan Fourth of July Parade on Monday, July 4, at 5 pm. Children are invited to bring decorated bicycles to ride in the parade as well as any other individuals, churches, businesses and civic groups who may wish to march or enter floats. Line up for the parade begins at 4 p.m.
One of the highlights of the entire carnival is the Fourth of July fireworks display which is headed up by Burleigh Gilliam and crew. The fireworks display will take place on Monday, July 4 at 10 p.m.
