KINGWOOD, W.Va. — Preston County Seniors shared their thoughts on Thanksgiving during the annual dinner at the Kingwood Senior Center, stressing the importance of tradition, slowing down, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.
Throughout the year, Preston County Senior Citizens Inc. continues to offer meals to Preston County Seniors. Additionally, the Meals on Wheels program continuously delivered hundreds of meals to seniors every month.
Amid the normal meals that are served, Preston County Senior Citizens Inc. also hosts holiday meals, providing classic seasonal offerings and a chance for community members to gather and share a meal and memories together, officials said.
During the most recent Thanksgiving meal, many local seniors gathered together — some with family — at the Kingwood Senior Center to enjoy a time of fellowship, reminiscing about life, planning for the coming holidays and sharing the traditions many hold dear.
Kingwood native Janet Henline said for her family, one ongoing Thanksgiving tradition was making homemade noodles from scratch.
Henline said it was a tradition that originated with her grandmother and had been passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, the noodle tradition continues, she said, adding that her kids like the taste.
“If you really care about something, you’ll learn to make it,” she said, adding that she had enhanced the recipe over time and continued other traditions like her homemade pineapple upside-down cakes.
