RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia police officer and a driver who fled a crash were wounded in a shootout in an alley early Monday, police said.
Around 3:30 a.m., officers saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and when the vehicle crashed, the driver fled, Richmond police said in a news release. As an officer tried to engage the driver in an alley nearby, they exchanged gunfire and both were wounded, police said. Both were taken to a hospital. The driver’s injuries are considered life-threatening and the officer’s aren’t thought to be life-threatening, police said.
The department is investigating the incident, police said.
