A section of Highland Drive off of Sanderson Drive in Cloverdale remains closed due to the collapse of a pipe 84-inch in diameter. The metal pipe gave way during a storm late Thursday night.
VDOT closed Highland Drive on Friday, detouring traffic using Richardson Drive and Murray Court for Highland Manor residents affected by the collapse.
VDOT Communications Manager Jason Bond stated in an interview Monday that VDOT will replace the metal pipe with an 8’x7’ concrete box culvert that must be fabricated and delivered before installation. VDOT’s in the process of procuring the culvert and will schedule the installation once it arrives.
VDOT looks at 90 days before the culvert’s delivery and then takes an additional three weeks for installation. According to Bond, the collapsed portion of Highland Drive is expected to be closed until mid-December.
