The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen recently traveled to Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, Virginia on Saturday, July 16 to take part in the 2022 Central District Shooting Education Competition. Thirteen 4-H shooting clubs from around the state attended, with more than 80 kids competing in six different events.
Competing for the Patrick County 4-H Marksmen were Caleb Murphy, Reagan Underwood, Bethany Gilbert, Levi Gilbert, Maggie Gilbert, Abby Corriher, and Levi Corriher.
Individual and team results include:
Archery Instinctive Junior Individual: Levi Gilbert, 1st place, Maggie Gilbert, 6th place
Archery Instinctive Senior Individual: Bethany Gilbert, 3rd place, Levi Corriher, 5th place, Caleb Murphy, 6th place, Abby Corriher, 8th place
Archery Instinctive Senior Team – 1st place: Bethany Gilbert, Levi Corriher, Caleb Murphy
Air Pistol PPP Basic Supported Individual: Maggie Gilbert, 1st place 10 and under, Reagan Underwood, 2nd place 11 and over
BB 10 and Under Individual: Maggie Gilbert. 1st place
3P Smallbore Scope Junior Individual: Reagan Underwood, 1st place, Levi Gilbert, 2nd place

The Patrick County 4-H Marksmen use shooting as a vehicle to teach youth ages 9-19 life skills such as responsibility, self-discipline, and teamwork through skills learned in archery, muzzle loading, pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Through these disciplines, youth also learn firearm safety and marksmanship.
