New River Community and Technical College held their first Diversity Day event on Thursday, Apr. 14, supported by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Diversity for Equity grant.
New River CTC students were asked to submit ideas for presentations earlier this year, and four student presentations were chosen to be given on Diversity Day. The following students gave presentations at the college’s Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg, and presentations were streamed through Zoom.
- Morgan Cook, Lewisburg, “Impacts of Living with a Disability”
- Sabrina Gravely, Marlinton, “Psychological Abuse as a Lesser-Known Aspect of Domestic Violence”
- Tristen Robertson, Hico, “Little-Known Native American History in Mount Hope”
- Candace Williams, Hinton, “History and Meaning of the LGBTQ+ Rainbow Flag”
College faculty, staff and students voted after the presentations, and Morgan Cook was selected to receive $500 for her presentation.
