The Pocahontas County Historical Society will hold its first meeting of the year Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at McClintic Library in Marlinton.
The meeting will have two main objectives.
The first will be to make plans for the museum for this year.
To be decided are the opening date and which days of the week it will be open.
Before it can open, a good cleaning is needed and anyone willing to volunteer for this work is asked to contact Denise McNeel, denisemcneel@gmail.com
Anyone who would be willing to volunteer as a museum host/hostess is also asked to contract her. Plans for Pioneer Days and the activities at the museum also need to be discussed.
Music is needed for the Spelling/History contests.
The second topic at the meeting will be an effort to work with school personnel to find ways the Society can help our county students become knowledgeable about the history of Pocahontas County. The Society wants to make the museum and its historical assets available to teachers and students as well as the historical research materials at the five county libraries and other locations.
Pam Johnson will be at the meeting to show the history room at McClintic Library.
If time allows, a discussion about the future of the Historical Society would be good to have.
High school/middle school social studies teachers, all elementary school teachers, Society members and anyone interested in county history are invited to attend.
A special welcome for new county residents who are interested in Pocahontas County history.
Membership dues for the Society are $20 a year.
