It was a quick evening at Monday night’s Marlinton Town Council meeting with a short agenda and limited discussions.
The last item on the agenda took up the most time, beginning with an executive session to discuss the personnel committee’s recommendation for hiring a code enforcement officer/ building inspector.
After the executive session, council voted to hire current councilmember Scott Gibb for the position.
Council also had a short discussion with Pocahontas County Little League representative Valerie Monico. Monico said the organization has been able to grow its numbers, going from three teams to eight. She asked council if it would be interested in sponsoring a team for $500. With the sponsorship, the Town of Marlinton name would be printed on the team’s uniform similar to that of a mascot name.
After discussing the matter, council approved a $200 donation to the Little League organization.
In other action, council
• voted to purchase a four wheel drive diesel lawn mower for Mountain View Cemetery.
• had the first reading of Ordinance to Amend Chapter 1 and 2, Title IV, of the town code of the Town of Marlinton to adopt the State Building Code as amended in 2020.
• approved the 2022-2023 budget.
• approved a resolution for administering funds for the Overlook Trail.
Marlinton Town Council meets the first Monday of each month, holidays excluded, at 7 p.m. at the municipal building auditorium. The meeting is open to the public in person, as well as via Zoom.
