On Dec. 14, Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White signed a proclamation designating Jan. 16-22, 2023, to be Martin Luther King, Jr. Week. This recognition of Dr. King’s legacy by the citizens of the town and others in this part of West Virginia has been a tradition for many years.
She will read that same proclamation on Jan. 16 to the participants in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration in front of the Greenbrier County Courthouse at 11 a.m. before the beginning of the march up Washington Street to the Lewisburg United Methodist Church where there will be a community lunch followed by a 12:30 p.m. program in the sanctuary. The keynote speaker during that program in the afternoon will be Crystal Good, a well-known poet and advocate for African Americans in Appalachia.
