HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Tygarts Valley on March 9th for the Regional Championship. The Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they won the game by the final score of 77-35.
The first quarter was controlled by Tucker County as they led after one 15-8. The Mt. Lions continued to build on their lead in the second quarter as they outscored the visiting Bulldogs 16-5 in the second to push the score to 31-13 Tucker County at the halftime break.
The Mt. Lions would explode for 28 points in the third quarter, while holding Tygarts Valley to 12 points in the period to make the score 59-25 after three quarters. The final quarter was also won by Tucker County 18-10 to give the Mt. Lions the Regional Championship win by the final score of 77-35.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Trevan Bonner with 22 points and Aaron Quattro added 15 points in the win for the Mt. Lions. Maddox Anderson and Owen Knotts added 8 points each for Tucker County in the win. Garrett Wilfong collected a team high 15 rebounds.
The win by Tucker County(19-4) qualified them to the WV State Tournament in Charleston on March 15th. The Mt. Lions earned a #3 seed and will face #6 seed East Hardy on Wednesday March 15h at 11:15am at the Charleston Coliseum. The Class “A” Semi-Final games will be played on Friday March 17th at 9:30am and 1pm. The Class ‘A” Championship game will be played on Saturday March 18th at 12:30pm.
