PETERSBURG – The Tucker County Football team traveled to #9 Petersburg for a matchup between tow top 10 teams on Friday October 28th. The Mt. Lions built an 18-0 lead in the first quarter then Tucker County held off a Vikings rally to take the road victory by the final score of 26-13.
The Mt. Lions got on the scoreboard first on a 57 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Rosenau to Maddox Anderson with 10:04 left in the first quarter. The 2 point conversion failed to make the score 6-0. Tucker County then scored on a 2 yard touchdown run by Jared Reall. The PAT attempt failed to up the Mt. Lions lead to 12-0 with 6:15 left in the first. Petersburg could not move the ball again on Tucker County and the Mt. Lions got the ball back at midfield with time left in the first quarter. Tucker County then scored again on a Rosenau 16 yard touchdown pass to Ashton Lycliter with 19 seconds left in the first. The 2 point conversion failed to make the Mt. Lions lead 18-0 after one quarter of play.
Both teams struggled to finish drives in the second quarter as the score remained the same through the quarter. Petersburg would then get on the scoreboard late in second on a 25 yard touchdown pass with 39 seconds left in the first half. The PAT was good to put the score to 18-7 Tucker County at the half.
In the third quarter the Mt. Lions would up their lead once again on a 32 pass play from Rosenau to Lycliter. The 2 point conversion was good to put the Tucker County lead to 26-7 with 4:15 left in the third quarter. Petersburg then would strike back in the third with an 8 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was no good to make the score 26-13 Tucker County at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was competitive as neither team could sustain drives enough to get into the endzone. The Mt. Lions remained in control on defense and Tucker County picked up the road win by the final score of 26-13.
Ethan Rosenau led Tucker County with 21 of 32 passing for 304 yards and Maddox Anderson led the team in receiving with 4 catches for 129 yards. Ashton Lycliter had 7 receptions for 103 yards for Tucker County and Blaike Adams grabbed 7 catches for 48 yards receiving. Jarod Reall added 58 yards rushing for the Mt. Lions in the win. Dom Mullenax and Reall led Tucker County on defense with 5 tackles each for the Mt. Lions on defense. Tucker County outgained the Vikings in total yards 379-186.
