HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Mountain Ridge, MD on Tuesday January 10th for a home game with the Miners. The Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead and then cruised to a 71-36 win over Mountain Ridge.
The first quarter was controlled by Tucker County as they led over the Miners 19-9 after one quarter of play. The second quarter was also won by the Mt. Lions 21-5 to give Tucker County the 40-14 halftime lead.
The Mt. Lions exploded in the third quarter as they outscored Mountain Ridge 20-6 to put the score to 60-20 after three quarters of play. The visiting Miners outpaced Tucker County in the fourth quarter 16-11, but the Mt. Lions got the big win at home by the final score of 71-36.
Ethan Rosenau connected on six three point baskets in the game to lead Tucker County with 22 points. Owen Knotts and Maddox Anderson added 13 points each for the Mt. Lions in the win. Garrett Wilfong collected a team high 10 rebounds for Tucker County in the game. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win also 40-36.
KIDWELL – The Mt. Lions traveled to Tyler Consolidated High School on Friday January 13th to compete in in a Basketball Tournament. The first round opponent for Tucker County was defending Class “A” State Champion #1 James Monroe. The game was close throughout, but the Mavericks pulled away late in the game to capture the 63-54 win.
In the first quarter both teams traded baskets throughout as the game was tied after one quarter 15-15. The second quarter continued to produce great basketball as neither team could build a lead as the game remained tied at the halftime break 33-33.
The Mt. Lions would gain a slight lead in the third quarter as they outscored James Monroe 12-10 in the third to make the score 45-43 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The last quarter would belong to the Mavericks as they started to pull away slightly midway through the fourth. James Monroe would win the fourth quarter 20-9 to capture the win over Tucker County 63-54.
The Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Trevon Bonner with 20 points. Ashton Lycliter and Ethan Rosenau had 9 points each for Tucker County in the loss.
KIDWELL – Tucker County returned to Tyler Consolidated High School on Saturday January 14th for a Consolation game against host Tyler Consolidated. The Mt. Lions used a strong first half to get a win on the road over Tyler Consolidated by the score of 61-32.
Tucker County had a great first quarter to lead after one quarter 20-4. The second quarter was also won by the Mt. Lions as they outscored the Knights 10-7 to make the halftime score 30-11 Tucker County.
The third quarter was also controlled by the Mt. Lions as they scored 18 points and held Tyler Consolidated to 10 points that pushed the Tucker County lead to 48-21 after three quarters of play. In the final quarter the Mt. Lions edged the Knights 13-11 to make the final score 61-32 Tucker County.
The Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Trevon Bonner and Maddox Anderson with 11 points each in the game. Levi Bennett added 9 points, while Owen Knotts and Ethan Rosenau had 8 points each for Tucker County in the win.
Tucker County(6-3) will return to action tonight Wednesday January 18th at Pendleton County. The Mt. Lions will then host Gilmer County on Saturday January 21st. The JV game will begin at 6:15pm at Pendleton County and the JV game will start at 5:45pm at home on January 21st. Varsity games will follow the JV game at each game mentioned above.
