Holiday cheer is flowing from the Patrick County branch of the Blue Ridge Regional Library with its Christmas letters project.
Samantha Edmondson, children’s programmer at the library, said a mailbox will be set up there for children to write letters and send them through Saturday, Dec. 10.
“We’ll have stationary so the kids can write their letters, and then they should get a response back. The responses will actually come from people that are at the Landmark (Center),” she said.
The stationary includes prompts to help children start writing, she said of questions like ‘This year I have been nice, naughty, or a little bit of both and one thing I did that was extra nice this year was….’
“There’s a line for your return address and” a space for “your wish list. Then you just sign your name,” she said.
Edmondson said only children who include their return address on their letter will get a response.
Since this marks the first year of the project, Edmondson is unsure about the number of participants.
“We’ve already had some people participate, and I hope we’ll have more in the next couple of weeks with the Christmas activities going on,” she said.
The idea was suggested by Rebecca Adcock, executive director of the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, she said. It is sponsored by the chamber and the Landmark Center.
