CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted Southern Garrett, MD for their first home game of the season on Tuesday March 28th. The Lady Mt. Lions built an early lead and then they held off a Lady Rams rally to win the game by the score of 4-2.
Tucker County led 2-1 after one inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then scored 1 run in the 2nd inning and 1 run in the 3rd inning to push the score to 4-1 after 3 innings. Southern got 1 run in the 5th inning, but Tucker County held the Lady Rams scoreless the rest of the game to get the win 4-2.
Paige Shaffer went the distance for Tucker County on the mound to collect the victory. Shaffer struck out 11 batters while giving up just 2 hits. The Lady Mt. Lions were led at the plate by Katie Hicks with 3 hits, including 1 double. Addie Hicks added 2 hits for Tucker County while Corrinia Lipscomb had a double for 1 hit. Ava Shaffer and Autumn Russell chipped in with 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions as they totaled 8 hits on the night.
BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to East Hardy on Thursday March 30th for a single game against their Sectional Rival. Tucker County got down 5-0 in the 1st inning, but the Lady Mt. Lions fought back to get the win 12-10.
The Lady Cougars scored 5 runs in the first to give them an early 5-0 lead after 1 inning. Tucker County battled back in the 3rd inning with 3 runs and then the Lady Mt. Lions took the lead after an 8 run 4th inning to make the score 11-5 halfway through the 4th inning. East Hardy then scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th to put the score to 11-9 Tucker County at the top of the 5th inning. The homestanding Lady Cougars scored 1 run in the 6th inning to put the score to 11-10 Lady Mt. Lions. Tucker County added 1 insurance run in the 7th inning and then the Lady Mt. Lions held off East Hardy to take the game by the final score of 12-10.
Autumn Russell led Tucker County with a 3 run homerun in the big 4th inning. Ava Shaffer and Corrinia Lipscomb added 1 double each for the Lady Mt. Lions. Katie Hicks, Kate Simmons, Ava Shaffer, Autumn Russell and Brianna Gooden had 2 hits each for Tucker County. Paige Shaffer, Addie Hicks and Corrinia Lipscomb finished with 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions who had 13 hits in the game. Corrinia Lipscomb started the game pitching for Tucker County and Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief to pick up the win for the Lady Mt. Lions. Paige Shaffer got the save for Tucker County.
Tucker County(2-1) will return to action tonight Wednesday April 5th at home for a doubleheader against Pendleton County with the first game starting at 5pm. The Lady Mt.
