PETERSBURG – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Petersburg on Tuesday January 3rd for a road game against the Lady Vikings. The Lady Mt. Lions used a strong second half to get the road win by the final score of 56-40.
The first quarter was controlled by Petersburg as they held a 9-6 lead over Tucker County after one quarter. The Lady Mt. Lions responded in the second quarter as they outscored the homestanding Lady Vikings 17-10 to make the halftime score 23-19 Tucker County.
In the third quarter Tucker County outshot Petersburg 13-9 in the quarter to extend the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 36-28 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was also won by Tucker County 21-13 to give the Lady Mt. Lions the road win by the score of 57-41.
The Lady Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Kadie Colebank with 26 points, 25 rebounds and Macy Helmick added 11 points, 5 assists. Ericka Zirk also chipped in with 6 points, 7 rebounds for Tucker County in the win. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team also won 52-27.
GLENVILLE – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Gilmer County on Friday January 6th for a game against the Lady Titans. Tucker County got off to a slow start, but a big third quarter allowed the Lady Mt. Lions to pull ahead to collect a 54-40 road win.
The homestanding Lady Titans got off to a hot start as they led 18-6 after one quarter of play. Tucker County then started to chip away at the Gilmer County lead in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Titans 16-7 in the second to make the halftime score 25-22 Gilmer County.
The Lady Mt. Lions continued to control the game in the third as they took the lead early in the quarter and Tucker County outshot Gilmer County 16-5 in the third to put the score to 39-30 Tucker County after three quarters. The fourth quarter would also belong to the Lady Mt. Lions as they outscored the Lady Titans 16-10 in the final quarter to give Tucker County the road win by the final score of 54-40.
Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 20 points, 12 rebounds and Brylee Wetzel added 9 points, 4 steals. Ericka Zirk added 8 points, 7 rebounds in the win for the Lady Mt. Lions. Macy Helmick chipped in with 6 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and Avery Colebank contributed 6 points for Tucker County. The Lady Mt. Lions JV fell in the first game of the night 49-37.
Tucker County(8-0) will return to action tonight Wednesday January 11th at Tygarts Valley. The JV game will start at 5:45pm with the varsity contest following the JV contest. The Lady Mt.
