Alderson-Joe Henry Lusk, 82, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at the Peyton Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 24, 1940, on Muddy Creek Mountain, a son of the late Bernard and Mary Louise (Caraway) Lusk.
As a child, Joe attended Alderson Elementary School and in 1958 he graduated from Lake Worth High School in Florida. He went on to work as a parts manager for Chevrolet and after proudly retiring he and his family moved back to Alderson, where they could enjoy the mountains. Joe attended the Alderson Presbyterian Church and later Joined the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church. He was a lifelong Aldersonian. Joe volunteered his work and time at the Alderson thrift store, where he met many friends. He cared deeply for his community, he enjoyed helping anyone that called on him. He will be sorely missed.
Joe will be remembered for his passion of working on cars, watching NASCAR, woodworking, and fixing clocks, but most of all, spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathleen “Cathy’ Jean Lusk and her partner Katherine Roody, of Waynesville, NC; his son, Joe Henry Lusk, II and his wife Jennifer, of Weaverville, NC; his grandchildren, Arabella and Henry Lusk, of Weaverville, NC; his sister-in-law, Sylvia Jean Keaton, of Alderson; his cousin, Carol Lilly, of Roanoke, VA; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, and the love of his life, Shirley Mae (Keaton) Lusk; his cousins, Earl “Chess” Parker, Harold and Joyce Phillips; and his uncle and aunt, Earl and Mae Parker.
Family and friends were welcomed before the memorial service at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, where Pastor Derek Hall officiated.
