SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Cari Jubb, a school counselor at Jefferson High School, has been named High School Counselor of the Year, recognized at the West Virginia School Counselor Association Conference. And, while this honor is a testament to her critical, continuous work at Jefferson High, she was quick to spread the love to her entire team.
“Getting this award, I credit it back to the teams that I’ve worked with over the years,” Jubb said. “We’ve always had a solid group of school counselors that have worked together so we’re cohesive and help our students and families interact with each other.
“I found out on the late side, I know normally they have the announcement of the different levels during the first week of February. I found out a week before the conference last Thursday and Friday. One of our counselors in our office is also on the board, and they allowed her to tell me since they knew she’d be so excited.”
Jubb joined the Jefferson High team in August 2007 after graduating from Slipper Rock with her graduate degree, and has been a foundational member of the counseling team since. She’s been so integral at the school, that she relayed she’s now beginning to work with students whose parents were also at Jefferson in the early years of her career there. This can be credited to the school’s alphabetical case load system, which has also allowed Jubb to check up on her former students after they graduate.
