Charleston —Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and hopefully Cupid’s arrow can help warm hearts after weeks of cold weather in West Virginia.
Everyone knows the classic Valentine’s Day gifts: flowers, chocolate, stuffed animals and jewelry. It may feel too late to do anything but order something quickly on Amazon Prime. But downtown Charleston’s oldest family jewelry store, Delfine’s, has released a special 2026 Valentine’s Day Collection that you can check out with a quick trip downtown.
“I love running a physical store,” said owner Megan Delfine. “People come to us for the most important moments in their lives. They want the perfect gift for the people they love. So, we walk them through their options and make sure people leave with a smile, no matter how confused they were about what their wife or girlfriend wanted!”
Delfine’s has been a staple of downtown Charleston’s Capitol Street for nearly fifty years. Over multiple generations, the Delfine family has helped West Virginians select special gifts for weddings, birthdays, graduations—and truly any reason you could find to celebrate.
This year’s Valentine’s Day Collection features colorful gemstones, stackable bracelets, paperclip heart necklaces and forever roses. These are real flowers that have gone through a special process to maintain their beauty for years.
“Our identity as a family-owned, women-run business is what distinguishes us,” Delfine said. “I’m a third-generation jeweler and a certified gemologist. I’m not just selling you an expensive piece of jewelry and forgetting about you. We are experts when it comes selecting stones that fit your lifestyle, keeping them in good condition and resizing.”
Independent local businesses like Delfine’s have an outsized effect on West Virginia’s economy.
A study shared by the American Independent Business Alliance analyzed the impact that local businesses like Delfine’s have on their communities. When people spend $100 at a big box chain, only $14 of additional local spending is generated. When people spend $100 at a local independent business, that number rises to $45.
