An overwhelming majority of 12,830 registered voters in Patrick County participating in Tuesday’s mid-term election supported incumbent 9th District U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Salem.
The GOP candidate handily fended off challenger Taysha DeVaughn, a Democrat from Wise County, and earned another term, according to unofficial results, with 4,844 ballots cast for Griffith and 1,078 cast for DeVaughan.
Among Early Voters, DeVaughan garnered 216 votes, with 667 for Griffith, and a total of 885 cast.
By Mail ballots were 175 for DeVaughan and 158 for Griffith, for a total of 336 ballots.
Griffith also won in Henry County, with 24 of the 27 precincts counted before press time. Griffith had more than 72 percent of the vote to DeVaughan’s 27.44 percent, according to unofficial results.
There are 2,600 registered voters in the Dan River District. Unofficial results suggested that 890 of the 1,014 voting cast a ballot for Griffith, and 123 in support of DeVaughan.
There are 2,624 registered voters in the Peters Creek District. Of the 877 to participate in Tuesday’s contests, 749 cast a ballot for Griffith, and 126 voted for DeVaughan.
Of the 2,604 registered voters in the Mayo River District, 917 cast a ballot in Tuesday’s election, with 799 supporting Griffith, according to the unofficial election results, and 117 supporting DeVaughan.
Unofficial results indicate that 864 of the 2,443 registered voters in the Blue Ridge District cast a ballot in the 2022 election. Of those, 692 ballots were cast for Griffith and 171 for DeVaughan.
In the Smith River District, there are 2,559 registered voters, and 1,040 cast a ballot, according to unofficial results. Griffith garnered 889 votes, while DeVaughan received 150.
Local races were unopposed.
Interim Commonwealth’s Attorney Dayna Bobbitt was elected to complete the unexpired term of Stephanie Vipperman, who was appointed a judge in the General District Court.
According to unofficial results, a total of 4,769 of the 4,873 cast a ballot for Bobbitt.
Rebecca Adcock and Terry Dalton, the two incumbent members of Stuart Town Council, won their reelection bids.
Adcock garnered 151 votes at the Stuart Fairgrounds Precinct, along with 48 Early Voting and 24 By Mail, for a total of 223 votes.
Dalton had 150 votes at the precinct, 46 Early Voting and 22 By Mail for a total of 218.
Jeff Houchins, a newcomer who sought a seat on Stuart Town Council, also won his contest with 146 votes at the precinct, 46 Early Voting and 23 By Mail, for a total of 215.
Unofficial results indicate 669 voters cast a ballot in the Town Council contest.
