Missy Hazard was named 1st Team All Piedmont District and Piedmont District Player of the Year. The senior averaged 11.9 points per game, 6.0 assists per game, 5.2 rebounds per game and 4.1 steals per game. She had a 46.1 field goal percentage and 40.1- 3-point goal percentage. She recently committed to continue her basketball career at Hollins University.
Donnie Rakes, coach, said, “Missy had a really great career at PCHS. Her work ethic and love for the game is at an extremely high level and that showed brightly on the court. Despite being the focal point of the opposing team’s defensive game plan, she still had amazingly good statistics game in and game out. I think the other coaches in the league recognized that and it was reflected in their voting for Player of the Year. I am extremely proud of the accomplishment for this fine young lady.”
Aniya Penn was also named 1st Team All Piedmont District. The junior averaged 9.7 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, 2.5 steals and 1.7 assists per game.
“Aniya is just a very good basketball player,” Rakes said. “Despite being undersized, she was a real force inside on the boards and scoring the ball. She was also a talented all-around player, making 18 three-point goals as well. With an infectious smile, she was a real team leader. We simply would not have been nearly as successful on the court without her. Just a junior, I think better things are still yet to come.”
Kimora Wimbush was named Honorable Mention All-Piedmont District. The sophomore averaged 5.8 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 2.0 steals per game. However, defense was her greatest attribute.
“Kimora was simply a huge disruptive force on defense; she forced untold turnovers with relentless pressure at the top of our press,” Rakes said. “We always put her on the other team’s best player and more times than not, she did a great job of containing them. She is a great kid and quite frankly the best female athlete I have ever coached. The award is well deserved.”
