George Allen “Oop” Lewis, age 81 years, a native of Parsons, WV and a resident of Montrose, WV for over fifty years, departed this life early Thursday morning, April 28, 2022 at the home of his daughter, Georgia Morral at Montrose, WV surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sunday, March 9, 1941 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Lee Roy and Emma Mae Cheney Lewis. During August of 1963 at Oakland, MD he was married to the former Dorothea Jeanetta Isch who preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Ann Rawson and husband James of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Georgia Lea Morral and husband Richard of Montrose, one brother, Mike Lewis and wife Sue of Martinsburg; and three grandchildren, Megan Morral, Lauren Rawson, and Nicole Morral.
Preceding him in death are two brothers, James Keith “Ike” and Robert Lewis and one sister, Carol Lynn Lester.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School where he played on the football and basketball teams. He attended Shepherd College/West Virginia State College. He previously worked for Kingsford Charcoal Company and Dorman Mills. He retired in 2002 from the WV Division of Highways as a Project Supervisor, after 30 years of service. He enjoyed reading, gambling, traveling, watching sports and especially watching his granddaughters playing sports.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday. Final Rites were conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Paul Thompson officiated and interment followed at the Leading Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery at Montrose, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, at cancer.org.
