Keeping the memory of Donald Davis, and his generous donations of toys to area children in need, is the main goal of the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive. Conducted by friends and family members in the Meadow River and Meadow Bridge areas, children in western Greenbrier County and eastern Fayette County received toys this holiday season thanks to the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive.
Davis, a resident of northern Virginia, brought a truckload of toys each year to be distributed to children of needy families in the region. After his death, relatives and friends of Davis have continued this project along with church groups, civic organizations, and businesses.
The Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive results are compliments of McEllenney Community Church of Dawson, the Greenbrier Valley Council 8689 Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Catholic Churches of Rainelle and Spring Dale, One Family Brewery and donations from various individual family members, supporters, and friends.
In addition to the donation to the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive, the Greenbrier Valley Council of the Knights of Columbus distributed 96 new children’s winter coats in Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas counties through the cooperation with the Family Resource Network in Pocahontas County, the Family Resource Network in Monroe County, Wellspring, Alderson Elementary School, and White Sulphur Springs Elementary School.
The Knights also distributed used winter coats, hats, scarfs, and gloves collected from the area Catholic Churches in Lewisburg, Rainelle, Spring Dale and White Sulphur Springs through various food pantries in the area and donated funds to Shop with A Cop and Penny Pitch.
