The 18th annual Meadows of Dan Folk Fair, sponsored by the Meadows of Dan Community Association, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Meadows of Dan, from the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church to the Meadows of Dan Community Center.
The event began nearly 20-years ago, when the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) was doing the bypass around Meadows of Dan, Trinity Goad, of the association, recalled.
The initial fair was a fundraiser, with proceeds earmarked to buy the gateway signs directing motorists to the community, he said.
“We had such a great response to it that we just decided to hold it annually from that point on,” Goad said.
The fair is a perfect opportunity for visitors to flock to Meadows of Dan, visit with friends and neighbors, while enjoying the clean-cut, family atmosphere that features outdoor entertainment for youngsters.
Also among the offerings Saturday is a slide presentation on the real Mayberry at Mayberry Church, presented by Aaron Mc Alexander at 10 a.m.
Bhagini Yoga Studios, in Meadows of Dan, will offer a stretching and sounds booth at the Meadows of Dan Community Center, Goad said, and there’s plenty of toe tapping music.
The Country Boys will perform from noon to 2 p.m. The Rock Castle Ramblers, along with flatfooting, begins at 2 p.m. Both performances will be held at the Community Center.
The Meadows of Dan Elementary School is the spot for the annual fish fry, with a variety of vendors and their products spaced throughout the area.
All of the events are free, and a shuttle will be available for transportation, Goad added.
