Incumbent Commissioner of the Revenue Cindy D. Kendrick plans to retire when her term ends on December 31. She will not seek reelection in the November election.
With nearly 20 years of service to the county, Kendrick said she began work in the Commissioner of the Revenue’s office February 2004 as a Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue.
“I worked with personal property taxation. I was promoted to Chief Deputy in 2012 and began working with business personal property taxation. In 2015, I obtained my certification as a Master Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue at the University of Virginia thru the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. The Previous Commissioner retired June 31, 2021, and at that time, I served as Interim Commissioner of the Revenue.”
A special called election was held in that fall, Kendrick said, and “at that time, I ran for election to complete the remainder of the previous Commissioner’s term.”
Kendrick said “it has been my pleasure to serve the people of Patrick County for the last 20 years. I do all the bookkeeping for my husband’s business, Kendrick Paving & Trucking LLC,” and she is the treasurer at her church, Mountain View Church of God of Prophecy.
“I plan on increasing my roles in those endeavors and to enjoy more time with my family, gardening, camping and reading. I hope to volunteer and maybe get a part time job because I will miss working with people,” she said.
Kendrick added that she has “worked in different areas and Patrick County people are the best I have ever worked with; it’s been an honor to serve the citizens of Patrick County but I am excited to see where this new journey leads.”
