Ararat Ruritan Club members recently delivered more than $1,000 in school supplies to the Blue Ridge Elementary School’s new principal, Marcie Murphy.
During Ararat Ruritan Club’s July Bingo fundraiser, players brought in school supplies in exchange for an extra bingo card. Patrick County Public School employees Donna Fariss and Mary Slate, volunteered to shop for additional school supplies with the donation their club made for this community service project. Fariss and Slate both serve on the board of directors for the Ararat Ruritan Club.
The donation of these supplies will not only help students, but also the teachers at Blue Ridge Elementary School. Classrooms have a need for tissues, hand sanitizer, and other supplies not usually associated with education. Lots of times, these necessities are purchased by the teachers to help their students carry on with daily activities while in the classroom.
The Ararat Ruritan Club has several fundraisers throughout the year to raise the funds needed for the donations and many other causes in their community. Bingo nights are held monthly, with the next one scheduled for August 20. Beginning in September, bingo nights will be on the second Saturday night of the month. Doors open at 5 p.m. and play begins at 6 p.m. The club also has monthly virtual fundraisers on Facebook. The club’s annual cash giveaway and BBQ/Cruise-In are just around the corner.
