Workshop Weekend of Aug. 19
Davis, W.Va. (August 12, 2022) – Highlighting the unique flora and fauna of the highest mountain valley in the eastern United States and offering an opportunity for both individuals and families to learn about and explore all the area has to offer, Canaan Valley Resort will host an expert-led hike, educational forum and facilitate outdoor adventure the weekend of August 19-21.
Matt Baker, Canaan Valley Resort General Manager, said, “As summer winds down, now is the perfect time to spend time in the great outdoors with friends and family. Offering cooler mountain temperatures and numerous activities geared to exploring and learning about Canaan Valley, guests are in for an amazing experience.”
The weekend begins on Friday evening, August 19th, with the Mountainside Music Series at Quencher’s Patio at the ski area. The band Crandall Creek will perform from 6-9pm slope side. Pub fare, as well as local craft brews, are available for purchase at Quencher’s Pub.
Chairlift rides are available during the evening, as well as daily throughout the weekend. Guests can choose to ride both up and back down the mountain on the lift or get off at the top of the mountain and hike the beautiful, two-mile Bald Knob Trail back to the ski area.
From 9-11am on Saturday, the resort will host the Edible Plants Hike. Taking place on the trails, fields and forests of Canaan Valley State Park, the excursion will introduce participants to techniques for finding and identifying wild plants that are safe to eat. Hikers will also learn how to use trees and plants to build fires, create shelter and for other survival purposes.
Saturday night, from 9pm-midnight, the resort will host a Night Sky Photography Workshop, weather permitting. The workshop will teach the basics of astrophotography in one of the best dark-sky destinations in West Virginia. Guests are encouraged to bring their own camera and a sturdy tripod.
Throughout the weekend guests have access to the resort’s outdoor pool, miles of hiking and biking trails, and an 18-hole championship golf course, among other amenities offered at the property. Wagon rides will be offered in the park on both Friday and Saturday evenings. The rides are offered 5pm, 6pm and 7pm and include a marshmallow roast.
