Olde Salem Days 2022: Olde Salem Days is set to return Saturday, Sept. 10. The Rotary Club of Salem anticipates an event larger than last year’s, with over 250 artisans and crafters. It is the largest fund-raising event for the club. More information can be found at oldesalemdays.com.
LeadHERship Series – “Innovative Workplace Communication: Impacts of Digitalization”: The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a luncheon Sept. 13 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Virginia Western Community College Natural Science Center in partnership with Virginia Western College of Career and Corporate Training featuring Anne Millehan from Millehan Coaching and Consulting. The topic will be “Innovative Workplace Communication: Impacts of Digitization.” It is part of a 10-month Women’s LeadHERship Series for women across all industries. Series attendees only. Gary Allan’s Ruthless Tour: The country music artist will be at the Salem Civic Center Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. His first new album in eight years was released last year. City Council candidate forum: The Salem Kiwanis Club will host a Salem City Council candidate forum Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 12-1:30 p.m. All four candidates, Randy Foley, John Saunders, Anne Marie Green and Hunter Holliday, will be present. SWVA’s Bigfoot & Friends…A Cryptid Celebration: The event will be at the Salem Civic Center Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. General admission is $10. Children under the age of 12 get in for free. Guest speakers will include experienced cryptozoology research experts and paranormal investigators, including Lyle Blackburn, Daniel Benoit, Lija Fisher, Zach Bales and Katy Elizabeth. Star-B-Q: The event featuring Easton Corbin will be Sept. 28 from 5-8:30 p.m. at the Salem Farmers Market. Special guest Pat Pollifrone will be in attendance. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Salem. Tickets are $8 in advance or $12 the day of. Children under 10 get in for free. Tickets can be purchased at city parks and rec at 620 Florida Street.

- The Salem Planning Commission will hold a special work session meeting at 4 p.m. Sept. 8 in the Council Chambers Conference Room. The purpose of the meeting is to hold a work session to discuss strategic planning.

Girl Scouts: All girls who join Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline by Sept. 30 will receive a free membership for the upcoming year. Girl Scouts is open to girls in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Fun, friendship and new adventures are what Girl Scouts is all about, a release from the organization said. Ghose Walk: The Salem Museum’s Ghost Walk returns to East Hill Cemetery Oct. 6-8. The tours will leave the museum every 15 minutes from 6-8 p.m. Participants will tour the cemetery and meet notable characters from Salem’s past. The walking tours are family-friendly and informative. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students of any age and free for children 3 years of age and younger. In the event it rains, the event will be held inside the museum and masks will be required depending on the guidance at the time. This will be the 24th year the tour has been held.
