Organ Cave-Billy G. (Gus) McCormick, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully at his home with his family around him.
Born Aug. 8, 1933 in Union, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Mary Catherine McCormick.
Gus was an avid hunter throughout his life; bear, coon or rabbit, he loved to hunt with his dogs. He shared his love of the chase with many young people throughout his lifetime. He also had a great love for horses, riding, driving or trading, he loved it all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Valerie McCormick-Vance; two brothers, Harry (Bob) and John McCormick and four sisters, Jane Dillon, June Turner, Phyllis Crickenburger and Bette Bloodworth.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Sue B. McCormick; three sons, Dirk McCormick of Union, Billy McCormick (Mindy) of Lewisburg and Rob McCormick (Tammy) of Wolf Creek and Marshall Williams, Jr. whom he thought of as a son; two daughters, Linda Stone (Chuck) of Organ Cave and Leta McCormick of Sinks Grove; grandchildren, Heather Ratliff (John), Stevie Vance (Jamie), Brandon McCormick (Cassie), Derek McCormick (Kasey), Mary Beth Hinkle, Becky McCormick (Justin), Sammi Hoke (Dylan), Jake Reynolds (Ally), Sheila Williamson and Tammy Dowdy; great-grandchildren, Alyssia Ratliff, Adria Ratliff, Calli McCormick, Saydi McCormick, Jace Hoke, Jaxtyn Rookstool, Ava Hinkle, Lilly Hinkle, Austin Dilly and Abby Dilly; sister, Sue Gillette (Cecil) and brother, Lewis McCormick. Gus had several nieces and nephews including John and Don Turner whom he greatly influenced in their youth. He was “Poppaw” to many from softball games to rodeos, he supported all the young people.

Funeral services for Gus will be Friday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte with Pastor Freddie Bostic and Rev. Greg Scott officiating.
The family received their family and friends on Thursday evening, Oct. 13, at the funeral home.
