The Alderson Town Council held this month’s meeting on Monday, Dec. 19, after rescheduling it from the original date of Dec. 12.

At the meeting, the Alderson Council made the payments necessary to close out the Spring and Lee Street project, which was being paid for by funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. The payments remaining were for payroll and amounted to $3,802.44 for work on the Spring Street portion of the project.

The council also approved the sending of the Letter of Intent to Army Corps of Engineers’ district command. The letter of intent is the initial step in partnering with the Corps to begin work on the water lines project, which will total $1,330,000 upon completion. The council then moved on to the actual agreement for design and construction of the water lines project, a formal document stating the terms of agreement between the Town of Alderson and The Army Corps of Engineers. This document will need the signature of the town’s representative, Mayor Copenhaver, as well as Corps’ district commander, and legal counsel for the town. The council approved signing onto the agreement, and it will now be sent to the Corps for their signature.

Lastly, the council approved an update to the Utilities Board presentation of policies and procedures for water systems. This was essentially a modernization of existing code in order to comply with regulations associated with the receipt of funds for both the town’s water lines and water plant project. The presentation of policies was considered read upon introduction and passed, as council members had had ample time to review the document prior to meeting.

With that the Alderon Town Council adjourned. The Town Council meets every second Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Alderson City Building. The public is encouraged to attend. Please call the city at 304-445-2916 ahead of time as the time and/or date of meeting are subject to change.
