CHARLESTON — The Intermediate Court of Appeals of West Virginia announced that Judge Daniel W. Greear has been selected to serve as the Court’s chief judge for 2026.
This will be Judge Greear’s second term as the Court’s chief judge; he previously served as the Court’s inaugural chief judge from July 2022 through December 2023. He succeeds current Chief Judge Charles O. Lorensen, who has served in the role throughout 2025. Judge S. Ryan White also serves on the three-member Court.
“The ICA has been well served by Chief Judge Lorensen,” Greear said. “I look forward to working with Judges Lorensen and White to ensure that the ICA continues to meet the needs of West Virginia and to further strengthen our judicial system.”
The Intermediate Court of Appeals was established by the West Virginia Appellate Reorganization Act of 2021 (Senate Bill 275) and officially began operations on July 1, 2022.
The Court’s jurisdiction includes appeals of final orders or judgments in civil, family court, workers’ compensation, administrative, and guardianship/conservatorship cases.
The chief judge is chosen by the Court’s members and serves a one-year term. In addition to Judge Greear’s designation for 2026, the Court has named Judge White as chief judge for 2027. Judge White will also act as the Court’s chief judge in 2026 whenever Chief Judge Greear is unavailable.
