ROMNEY, W.Va. — There’s been lots of activity at the former West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind dairy barn in Romney in recent weeks. Anywhere from 15 to 25 volunteers have shown up on three of the past four Saturday mornings to try to help advance the project in the face of current funding shortfall.
Patty Anderson, an original member of the Save the Barn Committee, said volunteers have been busy stacking wood, cleaning dirt and hay and other debris off the floors, filling a truckload of debris and scraping windows. On Saturday, the group started scraping the paint from the outside of the barn in preparation for painting. Anderson said they got nearly all the way around to eye-level but any more scraping will need to be performed by professionals on scaffolding.
