CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Next week is shaping up to be busy and inspiring as the University of Charleston honors the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The University of Charleston will also uphold its mission to educate students for “a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community service” with three days of programming focused on “Individual and Community Health,” starting Tuesday, January 21.
The full schedule is attached, but a few newsworthy events are highlighted below.
On Monday starting at 9:30 a.m., Bunmi Kusimo-Frazier, Esq, will provide a keynote address, providing her insight into the history of civil rights legislation and Supreme Court decisions in the United States.
A trial lawyer, leader, public speaker, and Ms. Black West Virginia USA, Kusimo-Frazier focuses on empowering all individuals to prioritize their mental, physical, and emotional health. This event will be in the Geary Auditorium.
There will also be lunchtime discussions beginning at 11:30 a.m., and a presentation on Martin Luther King, Jr. on Health Care Ethics. UC Provost Dr. Dan Silber will offer this at 2:00 p.m. in the Erma Byrd Gallery. A Unity Walk will take place on campus at 5:00 p.m., which should make for good visuals.
UC will then honor its mission of educating students for “a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community service” with three days of programming focusing on “Individual and Community Health.”
Each afternoon, beginning at 2:00 p.m., there will be a series of programs offered that cover a wide range of topics – from Consumer Health and AI to Bone Health, Ecosystem Health, Behavioral Finance, and more. Yoga and Zumba Dance Fitness classes will also be offered to faculty, staff, and students.
