HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted the Regional Championship on Thursday March 2md against Pocahontas County. The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and cruised to the victory by the score of 85-23.
The Lady Mt. Lions controlled the first quarter as Tucker County led after one quarter 21-4. The Lady Mt. Lions continued to outscore the Lady Warriors in the second quarter 25-7 to make the halftime score 46-11 Tucker County.
The Lady Mt. Lions would outscore Pocahontas County in the third quarter 19-7 to make the score 63-15 at the end of three. In the fourth quarter Tucker County outshot the Warriors 20-6 to give the Lady Mt. Lions the Regional Championship win by the final score of 85-23. The win allowed the Tucker County High School Girls’ Basketball Team to qualify for their 19th Straight State Tournament and 30th State Tournament in school history.
The Lady Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Kadie Colebank with 15 points, 11 rebounds and Raven Matthews added 13 points, 7 rebounds off the bench. Ericka Zirk, Macy Helmick and Katie Hicks reached double figures for Tucker County with 12 points each. Zirk would also pull down a team high of 14 rebounds in the game for the Mt. Lions.
Tucker County(19-2) will return to action tonight Wednesday March 8th at 7:15pm in Charleston at the State Basketball Tournament. The Lady Mt. Lions will play Tolsia in Wednesday’s matchup. The winner of Tucker / Keyser game will play the winner of Gilmer County / Doddridge on Friday March 10th at 9:30am. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
