James Thomas Wood, Sr.

Mr. James Thomas Wood, Sr., age 83 of Stuart, passed away, January 31, 2023, at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville. He was born on August 24, 1939, in Patrick County, to the late John Thomas Wood and Beatrice Pearly Biggs Wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny R. Wood. James was a faithful member of Ross Harbour Church.  He will be remembered for being fun loving, outgoing, generous, and his love of giving hugs.  He cherished his family greatly, being a dad and papa were his greatest accomplishments and taking care of the love of his life, his wife, Clara.

Left to cherish the memory of James Wood are his beloved wife of 65 years, Clara Jean Joyce Wood of Stuart; one son, James Wood, Jr. (Aleta) of Bassett, VA; three daughters, Wanda Martin (Rudy) of Charleston, WV, Glenda Rakes of Stuart, VA; Betsy Gwynn (Gene) of Leland, NC; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bill Wood of Henry, VA, Larry Wood (LaVonne) of Bassett, VA; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lois Wood of Bassett, VA, Peggy Whitlow, Stanleytown, VA, Gloria Martin (Benny) of Bassett, VA, and Deborah MaKay (Eugene) of Salem, VA; nine grandchildren; nine great g randchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Mr. Wood will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Gaylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackberry Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Saturday morning.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Patrick Springs Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 121, Patrick Springs, VA  24133.  Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is handling the arrangements and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
