HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Pendleton County on Monday December 26th for their first home game of the season. The Mt. Lions pulled away in the third quarter and they held off Pendleton County in the fourth to capture the win over the Wildcats 53-45.
The first quarter went back and forth as Tucker County pulled away slightly to lead 18-12 after one quarter of play. Pendleton County then fought back in the second as they outscored the Mt. Lions 18-13 in the second to make the halftime score 31-30 Tucker County.
The third quarter belonged to the Mt. Lions as they held Pendleton County to 4 points in the third and scored 13 points to give Tucker County a 44-34 lead at the end of the third quarter. The visiting Wildcats tried to mount a comeback in the fourth, but the Mt. Lions held off the challenge to give Tucker County the win by the final score of 53-45.
Trevan Bonner led Tucker County with 14 points and Maddox Anderson followed close behind with 13 points for the Mt. Lions in the win. The Mt. Lions JV team won the first game 47-35.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted East Hardy on Wednesday December 28th. Tucker County had a big second quarter to get the home win over East Hardy 60-41.
The first quarter was low scoring as the Mt. Lions would lead 6-3 after one quarter. Tucker County would get the offense going in the second quarter as the Mt. Lions outscored the visiting Cougars 20-10 to build a 36-13 halftime lead.
In the third Tucker County would build on their lead as they outpaced the Cougars 21-14 to put the score to 47-27 after three quarters. East Hardy would edge the Mt. Lions 14-13 in the fourth, but Tucker County captured the win by the final score of 60-41.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Trevan Bonner with 14 points. Ashton Lycliter and Garrett Wilfong added 9 points, 7 rebounds each for the Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team fell to East Hardy in overtime 58-53.
NAUGATUCK – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Tug Valley on December 29th to play Wesley Christian in the Kaydence Maynard Memorial Christmas Classic. The Mt. Lions pulled away in the second half to capture the win over Wesley Christian by the final score of 63-56.
The first quarter was back and forth as the Mt. Lions led 13-11 after one quarter of play. Wesley Christian fought back in the second quarter to outscore Tucker County 16-14 to tie the game at the half at 27-27.
The third quarter would be controlled by Tucker County as they outshot Wesley Christian 20-7 to give the Mt. Lions a 47-34 lead at the end of the third. Wesley Christian would make a run in the fourth as they edged Tucker County 22-16 in the fourth, but the Mt. Lions held on to the victory by the final score of 63-56.
Maddox Anderson led Tucker County with 21 points and Trevan Bonner added 15 points for the Mt. Lions in the win.
The Mt. Lions JV team defeated Mingo Central by the score of 59-54.
NAUGATUCK – The Mt. Lions Basketball team played game 2 at Tug Valley on December 30th against Martin County, KY. Tucker County was outscored in the fourth to allow Martin County to pull away for the 72-53 victory over the Mt. Lions.
Martin County got off to a good start in the first quarter as the led Tucker County 18-10 after one quarter. The Mt. Lions fought back in the second quarter as they outpaced Martin County 16-10 in the second to cut the halftime score to 28-26 Martin County.
Martin County would then build slightly on their lead in the third quarter as they edged Tucker County 17-12 to put the score to 45-38 Martin County after three. The fourth quarter would belong to Martin County as they pulled away from the Mt. Lions to get the win over Tucker County 72-53.
Trevan Bonner led Tucker County with 21 points and Ashton Lycliter added 10 points in the loss for the Mt. Lions.
The Tucker County JV team defeated Tolsia 64-22.
