Goad retires from Council

Outgoing town councilman Dean Goad received a plaque for his years of service from his colleagues on Stuart Town Council. (left to right) Rebecca Adcock, Ericka Cipko Wade, Town Manager Bryce Simmons, Goad, Mayor Ray Weiland, Terry Dalton, Dave Hoback.

Longtime councilman Dean Goad attended his last Stuart Town Council meeting on Dec. 21.

Goad, who took up his post on council 12 years ago, decided to not seek reelection during the 2021 election cycle.

“I’ve enjoyed my time, agreeing and disagreeing,” with everybody, he said.

Goad said he thinks it’s nice that the council was able to maintain Stuart as a small town.

“You wonder why people move in here. It’s not because they want something different, they want to move here for this. It’s nice to know that people are looking forward to coming to Stuart to find a house, to come in,” he said.

Dean Goad retired from the Stuart Town Council after 12 years of service. He is pictured with Mayor Ray Weiland.

Mayor Ray Weiland thanked Goad for his years of service to the town.

“The perspective that you’ve brought here to the town and your service has been very much appreciated,” he said.

“Thanks Dean, because of you I’m on the town council,” Rebecca Adcock, vice-mayor, added.

In other matters, the council:

*Approved the meeting minutes as amended.

*Adopted the Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention Plan.

*Heard an update on the wastewater treatment plant.

*Heard an update on town public works projects.

*Discussed the comprehensive plan public input sessions.

*Approved the purchase of a new lift for the town.

*Paid the bills.

*Approved a $1,000 contribution to the Caring Hearts Free Clinic and a $1,000 contribution to the Patrick County Community Food Bank.

*Approved giving a $200 gift card to each town employee.

Town Attorney Christopher Corbett did not attend the meeting.
